ThunderLily.com, launched November 1st 2009 is an online community where individuals can get made-to-order fashion at off-the-rack prices. They select unique designs, choose their fabrics then find a dressmaker to create their vision. Fabric sellers and dressmakers can build their own stores and manage their sales in a professional environment, while ThunderLily handles the marketing and development.
"I have a reputation as a fashionista" says Radina, a 22 year old model, "I love being able to choose a design and have it made up in the fabric I want. That's what makes me unique."
"I have aspirations towards being a designer, I just don't have the ability to sew" says Telisha, "now I can get a one-of-a-kind design without touching a sewing machine".
"It's the community aspect that makes so much sense to us," said Ralph of Belraf Fabrics a family-run business in New York's Lower East Side, "we are fabric sellers, we don't know how to build websites or manage marketing. ThunderLily has given us the opportunity to greatly increase our sales without any start-up costs."
Working out of a small back room in Harlem, ThunderLily is determined to put style back in the hands of the individual and sales into the hands of small, unique businesses.
